LET'S TALK: FREE RANGE LEARNING

Let's face it...in the field of education, parents have CHOICE! In California alone, there are currently 560 Elementary Districts, 87 High School Districts, and 330 Unified Districts for families to choose from. To make choice even choicier, there are currently 1,717 active and operating charter schools in California (and growing!). This is exceptional when you visualize the tremendous amount of passionate educators that have been behind each and every school opening, hiring choice, and policy decision. However, let's focus on the most important facet: THE STUDENTS!

Here is an article sent by a colleague that explores educational choice by a few courageous and dedicated educators bringing education into the home of the students. Homeschooling is an increasing trend in California, and for good reasons. What happens when you pull your child out of traditional schools and decide to do it all on your own? What resources do you have? Where does the curriculum come from? What if you could create your OWN curriculum??

This article explores these questions through the narrative of a passionate family who considers themselves 'unschoolers'. Unschooling is traditionally defined as "an educational method and philosophy that rejects compulsory school as a primary means for learning." However, what happens when you view unschooling as less of a rejection, and more as a land of opportunity? Check out the fascinating article BY CLICKING THIS LINK.
